Lani (Elena) Georgena O’Toole
A Celebration of Life Service for Lani (Elena) Georgena O’Toole was held from 12:30 PM to 2:30 PM on Saturday, September 14, 2013 at Sea View Baptist Church on 1450 Perez Dr in Pacifica, CA. A Reception followed and child care was provided.
Lani (Elena) Georgena O’Toole the former Lani Riekman passed in her 67th year to life with the Lord peacefully and unexpectedly during the night of May 5, 2013 in her sleep.
The following tribute was given by her husband Tom O’ Toole
Lani was born in San Francisco July 11, 1945.
She attended Lake Merced School, San Francisco State Campus School, Frederick Burk Elementary, Aptos Middle School, Lowell High School, and San Francisco State University.
While working at SFSU she meet her future spouse Tom O’Toole (Married February 8 1975).
She played Viola in the San Francisco Public Schools Symphonic Orchestra (All City Orchestra).
She was a 38 year resident of Pacifica.
Her infectious humor was enjoyed by all.
She was dedicated to and loved her family, music, and friends.
Her grandchildren were very special and precious to her.
Her family also included a gaggle of animals.
Her passing was due to emphysema with bronchitis, and cardio pulmonary complications. Lani did not want to be a bother for anyone, She put others first.
From the hymn, “Open Our Eyes Lord”
“Open our eyes, Lord We want to see Jesus; To reach out and touch Him”
And now she can!
Open our eyes, Lord We want to see Jesus; To reach out and touch Him…
Georgina her four year old granddaughter comforts us by with inspired words of wisdom far beyond her four years.
“Nana isn’t sick anymore, she feels better she went into the light.”
Lani never wanted a physical service, but a Celebration of Life Service to honor her is very appropriate.
Georgina also calls the Celebration of Life “Nana’s birthday party” (A new birth in the Lord)
Her faith was strong and we will see her soon after our short time in our temporary home here on earth, for our time on this earth may seem long to us but is nothing compared to eternity with the Lord.
When we’ve been here ten thousand years bright shining as the sun. We’ve no less days to sing God’s praise then when we’ve first begun…
From “Amazing Grace”
When we’ve been here ten thousand years bright shining as the sun. We’ve no less days to sing God’s praise then when we’ve first begun.
Lani loved and was dedicated to her family, grandchildren, extended family and friends, she will be missed until it is time to see her again in heaven with the Lord.
Lani was an animal person and although not accepted by everyone there are bible verses that support creatures in heaven, This makes us believe will see her soon with a gaggle of cat’s, dog’s bird’s rats, gunny pig’s and hamsters, our pets through the years.
One of her special hymns was “Morning has broken” a hymn that Cat Stephens made popular, read it or listen closely to it.
And then one day I’ll cross the river I’ll fight life’s final war with pain; And then as death gives way to victory, I’ll see the lights of glory and I’ll know He lives, Because He lives I can face tomorrow.
This both a joyous and a emotional time for us, Lani is free from pain and discomfort, but it is a very emotional time and major life adjustment for us.
From the hymn “Because He lives”
“And then one day I’ll cross the river I’ll fight life’s final war with pain; And then as death gives way to victory, I’ll see the lights of glory and I’ll know He lives, Because He lives I can face tomorrow.”
After 40 years for me and 37 years for Jennifer it is a major emotional adjustment not to have our daily contacts and talks with Lani but our faith and knowing that we will see her soon in the Lord’s grand perspective of eternity keeps us going.
The Family, Jennifer, Shawn, Georgina, and Natasha also are a great help, we continue to support and see each other almost every day. There has also been a great outpouring of support from a large number of her friends and our friends.
For us as of now each month feels like a year where the previous years felt like months. She will be missed until it is our time to be with her in Gods house.
Georgina(four years old) will often say “She is in Gods house” and Natasha (two year old) will often point up and say “flying Nana and God” followed by words we cannot understand, we wish could understand the other words.
“It is bigger than us”.
Please keep me, my daughter, son-in law and the grandchildren in your prayers.
Tom O’Toole (Husband)
